Joe Hill - BFO President
Feedlot Director

Three year term ends in 2020

Joe Hill and his family run a feedlot operation in Centre Wellington near Fergus and Elora. Here, the family of four operates a 200-head, short-keep feedlot and also runs 800 acres of owned and rented land in corn, soybeans, wheat and hay. Joe has always been eager to seek new opportunities having attended numerous workshops covering topics such as government relations, media relations, successful meetings, and training for directors. Joe also represents BFO as a Director for the Canadian Cattlemen's Association.


Rob Lipsett - BFO Vice President
Background Director 

Three year term ends in 2020

Rob Lipsett resides in Annan, Ontario and runs a 150 head cow-calf operation and backgrounds all of his own calves. He has recently expanded his land base with plans to increase the backgrounding division of his farm in the near future. Rob studied Business at Georgian College. Rob represents BFO as a Director for the Canadian Cattlemen's Association and the Beef Cattle Research Council.  


Jason Reid
Cow-Calf Director

Three year term ends in 2021

Jason Reid grew up on a mixed farm in Northumberland County where his family raised beef,dairy and sheep. He and his wife, Trudy, later moved to Thunder Bay and have been farming there since 2003. Jason and Trudy, along with their two daughters, have 75 cow-calf pairs, 50-70  backgrounding cattle and 300 ewes. The Reid's have 600 acres of forage with all cattle marketed in the spring as grass cattle. Jason is involved in a range of activities off of the farm, which includes relief milking, operating equipment, transporting livestock and volunteering on community organizations. Jason also represents BFO as a director for the Canadian Cattlemen's Association.


Craig McLaughlin
Cow-Calf Director

Three year term ends in 2020

Craig McLaughlin resides in the Whitewater Region of Renfrew County where he operates a cow-calf and backgrounding operation. Craig has a strong passion and interest in resource preservation and protecting soils and biodiversity through cattle grazing. Craig served as Advisory Councillor for Renfrew County for a number of years and also serves in the role of Supervisor for two local feeder finance co-operatives. Additionally, Craig represents BFO as a Director for the Canadian Cattlemen's Association.


Don Badour
Cow-Calf Director

Three year term ends in 2022

Don Badour and his family farm near the town of Perth in Lanark County. Together, they own and operate a cow-calf operation with 60 Hereford/Red Angus cross cows. They also cash crop corn and soybeans, as well as providing custom no-till planting, haying and combining services. In addition to the work on his own farm and through his custom business, Don also transports livestock. Don has experience serving as a representative for a number of agriculture organizations, including the Ontario Federation of Agriculture and the Lanark County Cattlemen's Association. 


Jack Chaffe
Feedlot Director

Three year term ends in 2021

Jack Chaffe lives north of Mitchell with his wife, Diane, and three sons where they operate a fifth generation farm. The family runs a feedlot that markets 2,000 head per year through the Ontario Corn Fed Beef program. Jack has a diploma in Agriculture Business Management and is involved in all aspects of the family business, from finances and herd health to the buying and selling of cattle and commodities. In addition to his role with BFO, Jack is Vice President of the Ontario Cattle Feeders' Association.


Mert Schneider
Feedlot Director

Three year term ends in 2022

Mert Schneider and his family own and operate a feedlot operation in Perth County and they market their cattle through the Ontario Corn Fed Beef program. To provide feed for their cattle, the Schneider family grows corn and hay, as well as cash crop wheat and soybeans on about 1,000 acres. Within his local municpal government, Mert has served in various roles such as councilor, reeve and warden for multiple decades. He also brings with him grassroots experience as a director of the Perth County Beef Farmers' Association for over 20 years. 


Jason Leblond
Northern Director

Three year term ends in 2021

Jason Leblond and his family operate a 35-head commercial grass-fed cow-calf operation in the Township of Chisholm, near Powassan. Jason began farming in 2006 with four cows, and has since expanded the family farm with the aim of growing to 100 cows. Jason is a Certified Engineering Technologist and has been involved in a number of agricultural organizations, including the East Nipissing Parry Sound Ontario Federation of Agriculture and the Muskoka/Parry Sound/Nipissing Beef Farmers.


Dave Cavanagh
Eastern Director

One year term ends in 2020

Dave Cavanagh is a fifth-generation beef farmer. He and his family farm in Peterborough County and operate a purebred Hereford operation with 40 cows. His calves are marketed locally with a large portion of their heifers retained for herd expansion. Dave and his family are very active in the fall season attending a number of purebred shows both provincially and nationally ranked. Dave has strong business management skills based on his work, education and volunteer experience including 15 years of experience as a business manager of a large multi-department organization.


Ron Stevenson
Southern Director

Three year term ends in 2022

Ron Stevenson and his family own and operate a cow-calf and feedlot operation in Huron County. Currently, they own 80 cow-calf pairs, graze 40 yearlings through the summer and each year they finish two loads of cattle in their feedlot. Their grass farm is located in the North Bruce Peninsula of Bruce County near Lions Head. Ron is an active member of his community involved in a number of local organizations such as the local fire department and optimist club, minor hockey, 4-H and the Huron County Beef Producers. 


Jordan Miller
At-Large Director

Three year term ends in 2021

Jordan and his extended family run a large commercial cow-calf operation on Western Manitoulin Island. Through previous work experience, Jordan has a background in strategic plan development and execution, budget negotiations, as well as leadership development program design & implementation for young adults. 


Dan Darling
At-Large Director

Three year term ends in 2022

Dan and his family operate a 300-head cow-calf operation in Northumberland County. Dan comes to BFO with previous experience having served as a director on the BFO Board for nine years from 2005 – 2014, two of which he served as president. Following Dan’s tenure with BFO, he served for two years as vice president of the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) from 2014 – 2016, followed by two years as president. Dan is currently serving in the past president role with CCA.
