Resolution Responses

The following resolutions were carried at the 2023 Annual General Meeting of the Beef Farmers of Ontario:

24-11 - Separate Animal Welfare Legislation for Livestock

Therefore be it resolved that BFO continues to lobby the provincial government for a separate legislation for livestock.

24-12 - Provincial Abattoir Funding

Therefore be it resolved that BFO lobby our provincial government for some type of base funding for these abattoirs that are meeting the demands of locally grown and processed Ontario Beef.

24-13 - Securing Ontario Conservation Land for Rental to Beef Farmers

Therefore be it resolved that BFO work with the appropriate conservation authorities to evaluate the potential to establish a process/application for beef farmers to rent Ontario Conservation Land for grazing purposes.

24-14 - Funding Program Application Assistance

Therefore be it resolved that BFO provide greater assistance with the clarity and requirements and be able to assist with the process and ensure it is accessible on the BFO website.

24-15 - FMD Compensation Program

Therefore be it resolved that BFO lobby CCA to work on a monetary compensation package other than set-aside programs.

24-16 - Renewal Process for APP Loan Applications Through ACC

Therefore be it resolved that BFO work with Agricultural Credit Corporation (ACC) to see if there are ways to streamline and speed up the renewal process for APP loan applications.

24-17 - Provincial Tax Classifications for Abattoirs

Therefore be it resolved that BFO lobby our provincial government to change the classification that these abattoirs fall under to help lower the costs of doing business to ensure they will stay open to provide safe, Ontario beef to all communities.

24-18 - Breeder Finance Program Enhancements

Therefore, be it resolved that BFO work with the government to build a better breeder finance program that works parallel to that of the Feeder Finance program which would allow cowherd expansion or heifer retention to grow Ontario cow herds.

24-19 - Program Delivery & Application Process

Therefore, be it resolved that BFO work with the other farm organizations to better understand the hurdles farmers face when applying for government programs; and

Be it further resolved that BFO work on recommendations to those responsible for program delivery that would make application processes not as complicated and less difficult for all farmers to be able to participate in these government programs.
