Every three years, the Beef Farmers of Ontario's Board of Directors is able to appoint a Canadian Cattle Youth Council Representative to the Youth Council board for a three-year term. As our current representative's term is drawing to a close, it is now time to select a new Ontario representative.
The Canadian Cattle Youth Council (Youth Council) is the vision of the Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) to cultivate youthful leadership by exposure to industry policy development, while allowing delegates the opportunity to gain experience and bring fresh insight to the table. The Youth Council also strives to be a conduit of information between industry organizations and the youth of the Canadian beef industry. The council represents Canadian beef farmers and ranchers ages 18-40 and is made up of 9 voting delegates; with seven provincial representatives and two members at large, and two Affiliate Organization Positions with the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB) and the Canadian Beef Cattle Check-Off Agency.
Delegates' responsibilities include participating in monthly board conference calls, attending the Canadian Cattle Association AGM in Ottawa and the annual Canadian Beef Industry Conference, participating in virtual training sessions, writing reports to update the Youth Council board and members about the CCA Committee they serve on as a non-voting member. The Ontario Youth Council rep also holds an ex-officio position on the BFO Board of Directors, and is invited to attend each Board meeting and event.
The Canadian Cattle Youth Council offers a valuable opportunity to build connections with young beef producers from across Canada and engage directly with industry leaders, including the Beef Farmers of Ontario Board. Council members play an active role in shaping the future of the beef sector while enhancing their leadership, communication, and advocacy skills.
